Tusker FC have picked their 12th win of the season after beating Chemelil Sugar 2-0 in a Kenya Premier League (KPL) clash staged at Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday 29 August.
The Brewers had dropped points in a draw with Sony Sugar and were seeking a return to winning ways. Their guests, Chemelil Sugar had picked just a point in the last three games after a loss to Gor Mahia, Ulinzi Stars and a draw against Wazito.
Defender Justine Omary and attacker Jackson Macharia scored in either half and helped Robert Matano’s side pick maximum points from the tie.
Tusker got the opening goal in the 17th minute. Sydney Ochieng was fouled outside the danger zone prompting the referee to award a free kick. Ochieng rose, sent the ball in the danger area and Justin Omary headed in for a 1-0 lead.
Ochieng was however pulled off injured moments later and John Kamau was introduced to fill the gap. The Brewers held on and went to the break leading.
The second half pressure on Chemelil paid off in the 63rd minute, when the Brewers doubled the lead.
Boniface Muchiri dropped in a cross from the left wing which was cleared but only as far as the onrushing Macharia. The attacker volleyed past Chemelil Sugar’s keeper for the second goal.
The win sends Tusker to the fifth spot on 43 points while Chemelil remain just a place above the relegation zone with 28 points.
