Simba SC is through to the semi-finals of the ongoing Sportpesa Cup after defeating AFC Leopards 2-1 at the National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam Tanzania on Wednesday 23 January.
Emmanuel Okwi and Clatous Chama scored for the Tanzanians with Vincent Oburu netting the consolation on a sad day for Kenyan clubs with defending champions Gor Mahia having earlier lost to Mbao FC.
Simba will now faceoff against Bandari FC on Friday 25 with the other semi-final seeing Kariobangi Sharks go toe to toe with Mbao FC.
Buoyed by the vociferous home support, Simba got into stride quickly netting the opener in the 13th minute through Ugandan international Emmanuel Okwi, who latched on to a cross from marauding fullback Zana Coulibaly to place past Jairus Adira.
Leopards tried to respond but were let down by their finishing with striker Wayyeka Tutawe doing little to trouble Aishi Manula in goal.
Okwi was tormenting the Leopards defence with his pace and before the half concluded, Simba would have added a second if Chama would have connected with a diving header an inviting cross from the Ugandan forward in the 40th minute.
After resumption, the Wekundu wa Msimbazi would pick up where they had left off and in similar fashion to the first half, get an early goal.
This time the linkage between Okwi and Chama working to provide the latter with the finish but Leopards would respond with substitutes Aziz Okaka and Oburu combining for Ingwe’s lone strike.
