Kariobangi Sharks are through to the semi-finals of this year’s SportPesa Super Cup after securing a 3-2 win over Young Africans Sports Club in the two teams’ opening knockout match played Tuesday 22 January at the National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam Tanzania.
A brace from Duke Abuya and a solo strike from George Abege saw Sharks claim the win with Amisi Tambwe and Heritier Makambo netting one apiece for Yanga in a game that was mired late on by a scuffle between both sets of players.
Sharks will now face off against the winner of Gor Mahia’s match with Mbao FC to be played tomorrow at the same venue.
Abuya and Abege set Sharks on a comfortable start to the game with their first half goals but concentration lapses late on in the game saw Yanga threaten a comeback but a second strike from Abuya in the last minute of normal time that was sandwiched by the two Yanga strikes proved enough for William Muluya’s men to seal the win and advance.
A smooth and peaceful game turned violent at the end when a scuffle between both sets of players arose after a series of crunch tackles brought about by the late flurry of goals.
