All set for MTG secondary schools tourney

Registration for the Moving The Goalposts (MTG) Secondary Schools tournament is ongoing with the event set to kick off on Saturday 16 February to Saturday 9 March with 45 schools expected to take part in the 2019 edition that will be held in Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa Counties.

Each participating school will part with a registration fee of ksh. 500, payable by Friday 8 February. Prior to the tournament a meeting for all registered teams will be held on Saturday 9 February starting 9am at the MTG offices in Mnarani.

Speaking to Soka in an interview, the MTG Football Events Coordinator Fatuma Mohammed exuded confidence that the tournament will be bigger and better this year. She also urged Secondary schools in the three counties to avail their teams for the all-girl’s tourney, aimed at aimed at tackling issues around Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SHRH).

“Last year we had 36 teams who registered and took part in the tournament. I believe that this year we will have more teams participating in the event. Team’s are encouraged to register since this unlike other footballing events is unique due to the SRHR information and knowledge shared with the participants through the peer education session. This will not only enable them make better choices, but also take control of their lives,” she said.

Since its inception, MTG has worked with about 456 secondary schools, reaching over 11,000 girls and young women through the tournament among other organized activities in the coastal area.
