It was pomp and flair as 8 teams fought tooth and nail to make it to the Nyanza regional finals of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Tournament.
The semifinals provided thrilling footballing prowess and entertainment for spectators who thronged the stadium the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday 9th February.
Manyatta and NCEOD Queens girls’ teams booked their place in the Nyanza regional finals with emphatic wins of 6-0 and 7-0 respectively over Kisii United and Migori Educational Center. Two girls stood out, Evonne Akinyi from Manyatta United who scored a hat trick for her team and Ivonne Ogada of NCEOD Queens who scored 6 goals for hers.
On the boys’ sides, Nyamira Springs and Manyatta United went through to the finals. Manyatta boys won 4-0 against Nyamaharanga boys from Kuria. Nyamira Strikers had to fight harder for their place in the finals as the game between them and Victory Strikers ended in a tie 2-2 and went into the penalty shoot-out ending at 6-5 in their favour.

Eastern Region Finals
After Kisumu, the competition moves to Kitui Showground in Kitui for the Eastern finals on 9th and 10th March 2019.
The competition will then move to Rift Valley, Coast, Central, North Eastern and Nairobi regions as the race to La Liga heats up. The competition aims at scouting for youth talent, developing grassroots football, and ultimately propel gifted players to the national team.
This year an all-star team will be selected to attend a training camp in Spain during which they will play against local youth sides.
