A Timothy Otieno penalty was all Tusker Football Club needed to dispatch hosts Zoo FC in Kericho in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match played from 3 pm Kenyan time.
The Brewers, banking on a decent head to head record against Zoo, looked to end their recent draw spell that had them fall back from the leading pack and dully bagged the day’s spoils as early as the first half.
Coach Robert Matano had traveled to Kericho with Zoo old boy Michael Madoya but would not start him against his former employers choosing instead to go with Timothy Otieno, David Juma and Boniface Muchiri. Otieno would strike in the 34th minute.
At the hour mark, Juma would pave way from John Kamau as Matano sought a second goal but Sidney Ochieng’s 85th minute attempt was the closest his side could come to notching a second.
The win takes Tusker to level on points with champions Gor Mahia and Bandari on 22 points and third on the log behind the champions due to inferior goal difference. Zoo on the other hand drop to 13th with 11 points from 13 matches.
Their head to head record against Zoo improves from 3 wins to four in five matches. They have only ever lost once against Zoo.
