Sofapaka defender George Maelo has made the declaration that they will be going for nothing short of three points when they face table toppers Mathare United in the Tuesday 12 February Kenyan Premier League (KPL) game at Moi International Sports Center (MISC), Kasarani.
The defender acknowledges the importance of the game as it holds a key to their rise to second on the log, which he says should bear enough motivation and he has termed this a derby, as he highlighted on the crucial nature of the game.
Winless in three
Mathare United have now gone winless in their last three matches, picking just two points from a possible nine, and looking at their quick start to the season, this can be termed a big slump on the Slum Boys’ side.
Sofapaka, who are on four straight wins, will be looking to exploit the same as the team continues enjoying a good run following the reappointment of John Baraza as head coach.
“This will be like a derby of sorts. Mathare is a very tough team and they are in good form because they’ve lost only one match. We know the task ahead of us is huge but the only option for us is to win so as to bridge that gap,” Maelo told the club’s official website.
Maelo was an outcast under former coach Melis Medo but has enjoyed much game time under Baraza and he is determined to see that the team continues doing well.
“We had a target to win five games and we have done four so far. We need to get this and then we will be in a good position. The work is just starting for us and we need to keep going with this same momentum,” he added.
Five points separate the two sides heading to the game.
