Tusker FC has lost its last three matches and, in the course of that, ceded crucial ground in the race for the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title and for a team of the Brewers’ caliber, coach Robert Matano believes only mental strength can get them back on track.
Matano will be leading his charges against AFC Leopards, his immediate former employers and a win here would go a long way in proving his charges’ mental strength. He said before the Saturday 9 March clash at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos that he will be going for nothing but a win.
A loss to Kakamega Homeboyz at Ruaraka Stadium and another one at the hands of Gor Mahia at Machakos before falling to Nzoia Sugar have combined to see the Brewers drop to sixth on the log but Matano will be seeking a better outcome in the Round 17 match.
“We are ready; for us it is all about mental preparedness because we have lost three matches in a row and that takes off a bit of confidence so we want to recover from that and we have tried to work on the mental strength of the players
“We have talented players but talent aside, you need mental strength to be able to play well. We will be hoping the bad run ends today because we hope to pick three points,” he said.
Tusker have beaten AFC Leopards in four of the last five meetings, and in the last two, have scored four times in each, winning both.
