Sharks make lightwork of Elim FC in first hurdle of Shield defence

Defending FKF Shield Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks breezed into the last 16 round of this year’s Shield tournament by thumping Elim FC 5-0 in the two team’s round 32 tie played at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Saturday 16 March.

Henry Juma grabbed a brace with Erick Kapaito, Sydney Lokale and Nicholas Omondi adding a goal each as William Muluya’s men set down a marker that they will not be relinquishing their title without a fight.

Solid half

After a solid defensive show in the opening half that restricted the Premier League side to just one goal, Elim came apart in the second stanza to allow Sharks claim a comfortable win.

Tinkering with his side a little, coach Muluya gave debuts to Nicodemus Omondi and Ian Taifa and his choices were vindicated as the two blended in seamlessly with the rest of the squad with Omondi going on to mark his debut with a goal 10 minutes from time to put the icing on the cake.
