Mathare United defender James Situma will be leading his mates in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash against Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday 17 March, donning the armband and hoping it ends well.
The experienced defender will be up against his immediate former employers and with club captain Crispin Oduor injured, Francis Kimanzi has for the second straight match entrusted Situma with the leadership.
Situma’s first match as stand in skipper ended in a barren draw with Western Stima and he hopes he can inspire the team to a win here, which will potentially take them from fourth place and back to the summit.
“It’s always an honour to be picked as captain since the band comes with a lot of responsibility. We played well against Stima but we were just unlucky. There were a lot of positives from that game and if we build on that performance then we can certainly get a good result in Kakamega,” he told the club website.
Since making the move from Homeboyz to Mathare United. this will be Situma’s first time playing at Bukhungu Stadium, against Homeboyz.
