Allan Wanga is now the sole leader at the top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) goal scorers chart; this after he netted for Kakamega Homeboyz in a 2-1 win over Mathare United in a round 18 league fixture played at the Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday 17 March.
Wanga scored the leveler for his side in the 20th minute to cancel out James Kinyanjui’s opener that came in the 2nd minute. Burly forward Maxwell Ravel delivered the winner on the half hour mark in an explosive first-half to inflict United’s third loss of the season that leaves Francis Kimanzi’s men in 4th place with 31 points, unable to close the two point gap between them and top spot.
Homeboyz on their part are boosted by the three points, which is the perfect response to the demoralizing loss to Gor Mahia last time out, and now move up one place to 8th with 24 points.
Wanga, who is a player coach at Homeboyz, is now the outright leader in the scorers charts with nine goals, just one goal shy of his combined tally for the last two seasons and four behind his best ever tally of 13 that was achieved 12 years ago in 2007.
This season could be the season he claims his first ever top scorers gong but it will not be easy as it is congested at the top with just five goals separating the top 16 candidates for the award.
