Stima’s unbeaten run ended in Kisumu as City Stars thump Shabana

Six round 21 National Super League (NSL) matches were played on Wednesday 20 March with the day’s action seeing unbeaten Nairobi Stima suffer their first loss of the season away to Kisumu All Stars with relegation threatened Nairobi City Stars giving their survival hopes a big boost courtesy of a dominant win over Shabana FC.

The only team still unbeaten in the top two leagues, Stima, went down 1-0 to All Stars at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu with Ian Mutanda scoring the lone goal to get his team back to winning ways following their loss to Administration Police last time out.

Promotion slot

The win sees 4th place All Stars move up to 39 points, three adrift of Stima who occupy the final promotion slot to the top tier.

In another match played at the Camp Toyoyo, hosts Nairobi City Stars thumped visiting Shabana FC 3-1 to move out of the relegation zone and into 17th on the log with 14 points.

The win, which is the team’s second of the campaign comes on the backdrop of rumours that the club is on the verge of receiving funding from a yet to be confirmed tycoon.

At the opposite end of the standings, Ushuru FC and Wazito FC continue to be neck and neck with both teams claiming wins to remain tied now at 47 points.

Ushuru saw off Fortune Sacco 2-1 while Wazito were 4-2 victors of Kangemi All Stars.


New signing Amos Asembeka was among the goals for Wazito with Victor Ndinya, Dennis Gicheru and Washington Munene also getting in on the act to deny relegation strapped All Stars.

Chris Ambuka and Teddy Siwa netted for All Stars who now lie second from bottom with 11 points, tied with bottom side Green Commandos who lost 1-0 away to Kenya Police.

James Nthiga scored the only goal of the game to lift Police up to 5th with 37 points.
