For the third time in two months, the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash pitting Gor Mahia against Ulinzi Stars has been postponed. The clash was scheduled for Saturday 23 March at Afraha Stadium but it will no longer be on.
A new date will be set for the clash, with the postponement coming on Gor Mahia’s request, with the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions indicating that a number of their players will be out on international duty over the weekend.
Five players from the team, drawn from three countries, will be on national team duties, with three in the Kenya national team Harambee Stars camp, while top striker Jacques Tuyisenge is set to link up with Rwanda and Francis Mustafa out with Burundi.
KPL CEO, Jack Oguda, speaking to Soka, noted that the reasons stipulated by Gor Mahia were valid, as per the rules governing the game, and confirmed that a new date will be issued in due course.
Gor Mahia request
“Pursuant to Article 9 sub article 9.5 of Rules of Kenyan Football 1998, we hereby wish to inform your office that our registered players namely; Philemon Otieno, Joash Onyango, Francis Kahata, Mustafa Francis, and Jacques Tuyisenge will be away on National team “A” duties during the forthcoming official FIFA week thus we shall not be able to honour the league match against Ulinzi Stars scheduled for Saturday March 23, 2019 at Afraha Stadium. Your kind consideration will be highly appreciated.” the request from Gor Mahia reads.
Postponed twice before
The match was initially scheduled for March 3 but Gor Mahia were then busy with continental assignments, which was also the reason for postponement of the allotted March 6 date.
