A goal riddled Wednesday 27 March afternoon in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) saw Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz and Tusker FC claim midweek victories against Zoo FC, Bandari and Kariobangi Sharks respectively.
Gor Mahia produced a dominant display to maintain close range between them and top spot by hitting Zoo FC 4-0 at the Kericho Green Stadium.
Dennis Oliech grabbed a brace with Kenneth Muguna and Nicholas Kipkirui adding to the scoreline to help lift the defending league champions up to second place with 35 points, a point adrift of leaders Sofapaka who defeated Mt. Kenya United 3-1 in the day’s early kick off.
Elsewhere at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa, hosts Bandari FC saw their slump continue as an unfortunate own goal from Collins Agade, minutes to the end of the match, saw Kakamega Homeboyz deny them at least a share of the spoils with the visitors claiming a 2-1 victory.
Bandari had led the game through Shaban Kenga’s opener in the first half but a resilient Homeboyz side went to the break level after Festus Omukoto netted minutes before half time.
Bandari are winless now in five with Wednesday’s loss their third in that time spun which sees them lose touch with the chasing pack as they drop to 3rd with 32 points.
At the Ruaraka grounds, Tusker FC put a halt to their five game winless run in splendid fashion by defeating Kariobangi Sharks 3-1.
Two goals from Timothy Otieno in the opening half sent the brewers on their way with Boniface Muchiri putting the icing on the cake on the hour mark. Sydney Lokale netted a consolation for the Sharks.
The win sees Robert Matano’s men leapfrog their opponents into 5th place on the standings with the two teams now tied on 29 points.
