Only two Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches will be played this weekend with both being scheduled for Saturday 30 March.
Both matches will be played in Kisumu County with Gor Mahia playing host to Kariobangi Sharks at the Moi Stadium while Tusker FC will be at the Chemelil Sports Complex to take on hosts Chemelil Sugar.
The Sharks game will provide Gor the chance to scale to the summit of the league with a win enabling Hassan Oktay’s men to open up a two point gap.
Gor are on course for a third straight title, which will be the second time they do so this decade. They currently lie in 2nd place with 35 points, a point adrift of leaders Sofapaka and with the benefit of having played three games less than the team’s around them.
It will not be smooth sailing though against the 6th placed Sharks who have been a thorn to the side of K’Ogallo in previous encounters.
After claiming all 12 points available from the two teams first four encounters in the league since Sharks’ promotion in 2017, Gor have been unable to keep the streak going and have now suffered three successive defeats to William Muluya’s men.
Sharks bundled out Gor at the quarter-finals on their way to claiming last year’s FKF Shield Cup and confirmed the change of tide with two similar 1-0 wins in this season’s curtain raiser the Super Cup and the first league encounter.
Gor come into the game off the back of a three game winning streak with the last victory being a 4-0 win over Zoo FC while Sharks suffered their first loss in four games last time out against Tusker.
A win for Tusker, in the days other game against Chemelil, will see the brewers, who had lost four of their previous five games before the game against Sharks, close the gap between them and top spot to four points by moving to 32 points.
Both matches are scheduled for 3PM kickoffs and none will be live.
