AFC Leopards and Western Stima will be in action in the Round of 16 of the 2019 SportPesa Shield on Sunday 31 March as they seek to join KCB in the quarter finals of the competition.
KCB, the first Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side to secure a slot in the last eight, did so in style, with a 4 – 0 blanking of Vihiga Sportiff at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday 30 March.
The Bankers’ win was the biggest of the day, with two more matches played in the coastal region. At the Ukunda Showground, SS Assad, who eliminated Ulinzi Stars in the Round of 32, once again prevailed on post match penalties, seeing off Naivas 9 – 8 after a barren 90 minutes.
In the other match, hosts Mwatate United fell on post match penalties 4 – 5 to Congo Boys after a barren draw at the Wundanyi Stadium. Meanwhile, Bidco United had the easiest passage to the last eight after being handed a walkover following Dero FC’s withdrawal from the competition.
The action continues on Sunday with Western Stima facing Wazito FC at Moi Stadium in Kisumu from 4pm whil AFC Leopards will be at the Bukhungu Stadium as from 4pm EAT to host Bungoma Superstars.
On Monday 1 April, defending champions Kariobangi Sharks will be at the MISC, Kasarani to take on Muranga Seal starting 4pm EAT then the big one, featuring KPL sides, will see Bandari host Gor Mahia at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Wednesday 10 April.
