AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz had to settle for a point each after the two played to a 1-1 draw in a round 22 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) encounter played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday 10 April.
Current league top scorer Allan Wanga netted his 12th goal of the season, cancelling out Whyvonne Isuza’s opener to help extend his team’s unbeaten run now to five games.
Homeboyz remain in 5th place on the standings with 34 points now courtesy of the draw while Leopards, who also have an unbeaten stretch of their own of five games as well, remain 10th with 27 points. All this though is subject to change when the round continues on Thursday.
It is sort of becoming a trend for Leopards to score early in games. Last week, Isuza netted the fastest goal this season as he found the back of the net after only 36 seconds after kick off against Chemelil Sugar.
He again netted on Wednesday but his goal against Homeboyz came slightly a bit late than the goal against Chemelil. This time he netted in the 8th minute, producing an Ibrahimovic-esque finish to guide debut boy Boniface Mukhekhe’s corner past David Juma in goal.
The lead though would be short-lived as the inform Wanga got his side level with a header that ricocheted off the crossbar into the back of an outstretched Jairus Adira and into the back of the net; the goal being his third in two games and fourth in five.
No more goals would be witnessed after that with the only other significant piece of action being the injury to Peter Thiong’o who was caught in the chest by flailing right boot from David Cheche after a miscued attempt at a clearance by the Leopards defender.
The winger was withdrawn with seven minutes remaining with Luke Namanda taking his place.
