Coach Patrick Odhiambo’s SoNy Sugar FC side continued with their impressive away form when on Wednesday 10th afternoon, dispatched former Kenyan Premier League leaders Mathare United by two goals to one.
Daniel Otieno gave the visitors the lead in the 27th minute but Klinsmann Omulanga restored parity just three minutes later. Captain Enock Agwanda however, ensured the sugar millers left Nairobi with another set of three points- this after beating Posta Rangers by the same scoreline on Sunday.
SoNy were the first with a real chance of the game when Kenya U23 midfielder Tobias Otieno’s free-kick went wide. This was only the 7th minute and five minutes later, youngster Klinsmann Omulanga could have given the hosts the lead had he garnered enough power for his header.
Midfielder Maxwell Onyango was very early in the books of the referee for a deliberate shove on David Owino in the 25th minute and two minutes later, Robert Achema set up Daniel Otieno for the opener.
Mathare United didn’t take too long to respond as Omulanga latched onto a rebound from keeper Kevin Otieno after a Chrispin Oduor shot. 1-1 it stood, but only for another three minutes as Enock Agwanda restored SoNy’s lead.
The sugar millers held on in the second half to claim an important win on the road.
In another league match played on Wednesday, Posta Rangers were made to wait for a win when home side Chemelil Sugar restricted them to a 0-0 scoreline. John Kamau’s men have now gone 7 matches without a win.
SoNy’s win keeps them in 6th position after 22 matches while Mathare United stay 4th on the log. Chemelil Sugar are still 14th and Posta Rangers 16th.
