10-man Sharks deny Leopards win at Kasarani

Kariobangi Sharks and AFC Leopards both played to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining Kenyan Premier League (KPL) tie played Wednesday 24 April at the MISC Kasarani.

A first minute goal by Whyvonne Isuza was cancelled out in the last minute of the game by George Abege to deny Leopards the win which could have seen them leapfrog their opponents on the standings.

Sharks played for half an hour with 10-men after youngster Ian Taifa received a red card for a reckless tackle.

The point leaves the two separated by two points on the standings with Sharks 9th with 33 points and Leopards 10th with 31

Fast start

A tense affair saw Leopards break the deadlock inside the first minute of play, through Isuza who slotted past John Oyemba after being found by Paul Were. The goal marked the second time this season that the attacking midfielder has scored almost immediately after the first whistle.

He did the same earlier in the month when Leopards dispatched Chemelil Sugar 2-0, scoring after just 36 seconds on the clock.

Leopards were however unable to add onto their blistering start, unfortunately ending up being denied all the three points after substitute Abege popped up with the equalizer with virtually the last kick of the game.

A slippery surface due to the ongoing rains saw a number of crunch tackles come in with two resulting in Taifa, roped in from the club’s academy, seeing red in the 63rd minute for two bookable offences.

The point did come at a cost for Sharks who have now gone eight games without a win as aside from the red card, captain Patilah Omotto, who was returning from injury, failed to finish the game and came off in the second half after sustaining a knock in the opening stanza.

In other games played on Wednesday, Enosh Ochieng continued with his goal scoring heroics as he scored the only goal of the game to help Ulinzi Stars down Vihiga United 1-0 in Nakuru.

13 goals

The forward netted after 11 minutes to grab his 13th goal of the season that propels Ulinzi up to 7th with 36 points.

Elsewhere at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, hosts KCB were shocked 2-1 by visiting Chemelil Sugar while in Bungoma at the Sudi Stadium, hosts Nzoia Sugar were held to a 0-0 draw by Western Stima.
