Looming standoff as Nzoia heads to Mumias while Leopards insist on Bukhungu

One of the Kenyan Premier League’s round 27 matches set for Wednesday 1 May may experience a major standoff as Nzoia Sugar FC, hosting AFC Leopards, have insisted that they will play their match in Mumias, and were in fact heading to the venue at the time this story went online.

According to the KPL fixtures, the team is scheduled to host Ingwe at the Bukhungu Stadium from 2 pm, a match the league managers had in fact earmarked for live coverage.

The sugar millers, however, responded that they would play the match in Mumias which they have listed as their second option to home ground Sudi Stadium.

Destination Mumias

Through their chairman, Ngisa Mokua, Nzoia made this clear and sources from the camp indicate that they are on their way to Mumias and not Bukhungu.

”We are heading to Mumias right now, that is where we will play the match. It is our second home and has recently been cleared to hos league matches,” says the source.

AFC Leopards on the other hand, through their official social media handles, are pumped up for the match and will be waiting for Nzoia in Bukhungu, presumably- going by the league manager’s instructions.

Nzoia’s Official communication: The KPL’s official stand:

In December last year, Nzoia Sugar played the first of a double-header in Bukhungu stadium against Mathare United, a match they lost 3-0 as Kakamega Homeboyz spanked AFC Leopards 3-0 in the second match at the venue. These are the only matches to have been beamed live from Bukhungu Stadium this season.

The match was supposed to be the first of a double-header as Kakamega Homeboyz entertain Tusker FC from 4:15 pm at the same venue.

There are 28 kilometers between Kakamega and Mumias towns.
