Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club this evening went down 3-1 at the hands of Tusker FC in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) encounter staged at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
Despite a wasteful opening half hour in the match, the goals would soon come and they did so in plenty- two apiece for each half.
Two quickfire goals in the first half courtesy of former Tusker Youth FC player David Majak in the 39th minute and a second one a minute later by Boniface Muchiri saw the visitors take a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Jackson Macharia would score within seconds of resumption and substitute Maxwell Ravel’s 72nd-minute goal a mere consolation for the home side.
Winger Moses Mudavadi could have given Homeboyz a great start had his 6th minute shot gone in a few inches to the left. Six minutes later, Majak would himself get a clear chance fro Tusker but fluff it in a huff to get a quick goal.
Mudavadi showed up again in the 22nd minute, powering past Marlon Tangauzi before firing a cross that would agonizingly skid across the face of Tusker goal begging for a tap-in.
In the 39th minute, the visitors took the lead, Majak finding himself on the end of a Rodgers Aloro delivery to make it 1-0. A minute later, Boniface Muchiri lobbed the ball over David Juma as Homeboyz stood stunned at what was unfolding before their eyes.
Jackson Macharia’s diagonal cross, had aided Muchiri’s breach of the Homeboyz high wall for the second goal.
Tusker took the 2-0 lead into the break.
Upon resumption, an unsuspecting Homeboyz found themselves 3-0 down when Muchiri’s effort from a Majak cross bounced off the woodwork finding Macharia perfectly positioned for the second ball. He made no mistakes.
Defender Moses Chikati had to be stretchered off in the 55th minute and Kennedy Onyango entered the fray. Tusker, on the other hand, withdrew winger Noah Wafula for defender Omary Justine as coach Robert Matano sought to fiercely protect his healthy lead.
Congolese forward Maxwell Ravel came on for central midfielder Festo Omukoto at the hour mark, and 12 minutes later, had reduced the deficit for the hosts.
Mudavadi could have set up an intense end to the game had he buried his 78th minute effort- instead, he blasted his shot over keeper Emery Mvuyekure as Tusker held on.
There was no coming back as Homeboyz recorded a rare loss at their home ground Bukhungu stadium, and a massive one- 3-1.
