Bandari FC returned to winning ways with a 1 – 0 victory over visiting Ulinzi Stars at the KPA Mbaraki Sports Club in a Thursday 2 May Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash.
In a game that seemed balanced for long periods, with both sides attacking with intent, it was the on-form Yema Mwana who would pop up with the winner in the 83rd minute of the clash.
Joint KPL leading scorer Enosh Ochieng had the first real test of the match when in the 11th minute he rose to meet Omar Mbongi’s cross, but he could only graze the bar.
On the other end, William Wadri was a constant pain for Ulinzi Stars, with searing runs through the midfield but his final ball was on most occasions wanting.
The teams headed to the break tied at 0 – 0 but Wadri, Shaban Kenga and Hassan Abdalla combined to keep Ulinzi Stars on the alert, with Ulinzi playing on the hind foot for most of the half.
When Yema Mwana’s moment came, it was somehow expected after a dominant display by the hosts in the second half. Bandari won a corner and Hassan Abdalla stepped up to take it.
The youngster swung it in and Ulinzi Stars defence was slow with reaction allowing Yema space in and the Bandari top scorer was at it with a close range header.
The win sees Bandari open up a five point lead as they consolidate third place on 48 points, while Ulinzi Stars remain eighth on 36 points from 27 matches.
