Vihiga United have ended their 9-match win-less streak by dismissing Chemelil Sugar 2-1 in a Saturday Kenyan Premier League match played at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega from 3pm.
The visitors had taken the lead through left full-back Vincent Mahiga who rose the highest to head home a Nicholas Akoko free kick in the 37th minute. They carried the lead into the break as the hosts stared at another league loss.
In the second half, Victor Ademba’s free kick bounced off the wall but on second invitation, the former SoNy Sugar man powered right through the entire Chemelil defense for 1-1 in the 67th minute.
The game seemed deadlocked- an headed for a share of the spoils but winger Christopher Masinza’s run in the Chemelil box was halted in the 89thg minute, the referee pointing to the spot.
Skipper Patrick Okullo made it 2-1 from the spot as the hosts recorded a hard-earned win.
The win takes United to 24 points from 28 matches, and stay one point behind Posta Rangers who are yet to be active in this week’s fixtures.
