Ulinzi Stars will miss the services of key defender Brian Birgen when the four – time league champions get to face Posta Rangers in the Thursday 9 May Kenyan Premier League (KPL) game at Afraha Stadium.
The defender suffered a deep cut in the face in an aerial collision with Nzoia Sugar FC’s Hansel Ochieng in their Monday 6 May clash and the team doctor, John Imboywa, through the club’s official website, has termed him unavailable for the game.
Makes it worse
Birgen’s injury only makes it worse for coach Benjamin Nyangweso, who now has four senior players ruled out.
He joins Ibrahim Shambi and Boniface Okinyi on the sidelines after the two picked injuries in their earlier game, against Bandari in Mombasa. While Shambi is nursing a thigh muscled strain, Okinyi is out with a groin injury, according to the club site.
Also ruled out of the match, is midfielder Daniel Waweru, who is yet to recover from the ankle injury that saw him limp off the Western Stima game in April, in Kisumu.
Some positive news for the team though, is that defender Omar Mbongi is fit, having been withdrawn in the second half of the win over Nzoia Sugar.
The two sides drew 1 – 1 in the first leg, with John Nairuka scoring for Posta before Shambi leveled in the second half.
