Wanga nets as Homeboyz edge Stima in ill-tempered contest, as Zoo fells Ulinzi in Kericho

Kakamega Homeboyz FC were on Sunday 12th 2-0 winners over visiting Western Stima FC in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) 2 pm kick-off match staged at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Despite a balanced first half, the home side would capitalize on two opportunities in the second to sink the visiting Powermen from Kisumu. First was Allan Wanga, firing from the spot in the 60th minute and later on lanky forward Maxwell Ravel for 2-0.

The match, a tasty affair pitting two sides with immense familiarity to each other, ended with both teams having ten men on the field. Defenders Mukisa Joseph and Kennedy Onyango each went for early showers for two different reasons.

Captain Allan Wanga would have welcomed another goal to further assert more dominance at the top of the Kenyan Premier League top scorers’ charts but his 19th-minute free-kick went inches wide with keeper Samuel Odhiambo having little to do.

On the other end of the field, Gabriel Andika was served his first real task when Kennedy Otieno fired in a traditional left-footed strike from the edge of the box, Andika rising up to tip it over the bar for a corner kick.

Stima weren’t done in troubling the Homeboyz defense as Hubert Kopany was next up, arriving on the host’s blind side of defense and latching onto a Kelvin Okoth pass. His low drive, however, could not find its way past Andika with Otieno arriving at the far post for the result.

Kelvin Okoth could not see the end of first half after a series of knocks and paved way for Henry Onyango before the break.

The second half began with the withdrawal of David Odhiambo for Osborne Monday by the hosts, and the first chance fell on Kennedy Otieno- firing a powerful shot only to see it blocked by Festus Okiring in the 55th minute.

At the hour mark, the referee pointed to the spot from an incident in the box that also claimed a Stima center-back. Mukisa Junior was sent off for a second bookable offense from an incident only referee George Mwai seemed to have spotted in the box while Homeboyz took a set-play.

Allan Wanga stood behind the ball to fire home his 18th of the season. Five minutes after this, Ravel would himself grab one after being set up by Festo Omukoto and Homeboyz led 2-0 by the 65th minute.

Henry Onyango was to grab one back for the visitors but his 73rd-minute header veered off target as Stima pressed high with inferior numbers.

Homeboyz were to finish the match with a man less when center-back Kennedy Onyango was shown a straight red card after an altercation with Hubert Kopany. Kopany himself would only get a yellow card.

Despite late pressure to breach keeper Gabriel Andika’s guard, the hosts withstood it all and kept a clean sheet, picking all three points.

Zoo FC 2-1 Ulinzi Stars

In Kericho, Zoo FC picked a 2 – 1 win over Ulinzi Stars courtesy of goals from Danson Chetambe and Erick Kipkoech while Enosh Ochieng scored a late consolation for Ulinzi.
