After three troubled seasons in the top flight, Mount Kenya United’s misery has come to an end after going down 1 – 3 at the hands of Sony Sugar in the Saturday 18 May Round 31 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Sony Sugar’s lead scorer Derrick Otanga stretched his tally to 12 in the 27th minute and 11 minutes later handed the Millers the second goal to take a commanding lead to the break with his 13th goal of the season.
Three minutes after resumption, Solomon Omollo made it three for the visitors.
Brian Nyakan did manage to pull one back for Mount Kenya United but the damage was already done for the team that last season had to survive through the two legged playoff after seeing off Ushuru FC.
At 28 points from 31 matches, Mount Kenya can only pick a maximum nine points to take them to 27, one short of 15th placed Zoo FC who have won their last two matches to place themselves at an advantage in the relegation fight.
Sony Sugar, in the meantime, leap to fourth place on the KPL log with 52 points, four behind third placed Sofapaka.
