Bandari draw with Mathare to hand Gor Mahia title

Bandari FC drew 0-0 with Mathare United at the MISC Kasarani on Wednesday 22 May in a round 32 Kenyan Premier League tie with the result subsequently ruling them out of the title race and confirming Gor Mahia’s 18th league crown success.

Gor needed just two points from their remaining three games to seal the title but due to Bandari’s draw on Wednesday, the defending league champions, who are currently taking on Vihiga United at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, are now crowned champions as their seven point advantage, currently, at the top of the table becomes unassailable.

No matter the result against Vihiga, Gor are now assured of their third successive league crown.

Other matches

In other matches played on Wednesday, Sony Sugar leapfrogged Kakamega Homeboyz into 4th on the standings after they claimed a 2-1 win over the latter at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Andrew Waiswa netted a brace with a goal either side of Max Ravel’s equalizer to help claim the win that lifts them up to 55 points, three more than Homeboyz who drop down to 5th.

At the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma, hosts Nzoia Sugar were unable to make their home support count as they fell 1-0 to 10-man KCB.

Kennedy Owino’s first half penalty was the difference for The Bankers who had Brian Ochieng sent off with almost half an hour gone of the clash.

Katasi injury

Aside from the loss, Nzoia also suffered another blow as keeper Humphrey Katasi suffered injury and was replaced during the opening stanza.

The Bankers keep hold of their 8th place on the log courtesy of the win as they move up to 43 points while The Millers remain in 12th place, six points behind with 37 points.
