Just as it was three months ago in February, both Hassan Oktay and Umaru Kasumba reign supreme yet again to be named the Kenyan Premier League’s (KPL) best for the month of April.
The Gor Mahia tactician and Sofapaka forward have both been named Coach and Player of the Month for April to become the first pair this season to claim the respective awards twice this campaign after claiming the February award.
Kasumba’s award also adds to Sofapaka’s dominace in the month of March that saw both head coach John Baraza and keeper Justin Ndikumana carry the day.
Oktay was feted on Thursday with Ugandan forward Kasumba receiving his gong on Friday.
Kasumba netted seven times in the month as Batoto Ba Mungu went on a seven game unbeaten run to place themselves with a chance to claim a first league crown since 2009. But eventually faded off in May.
Top scorer’s race
Even though league success has not been their portion with Gor Mahia claiming an unprecedented 18th league crown, Sofapaka could still produce this season’s top marksman with Kasumba right in the thick of things in this season’s Golden Boot race.
The Ugandan has found the back of the net a total 17 times this season and trails leading scorer Allan Wanga by a single goal. With two games left to play Kasumba will sure have his sights locked on claiming the season’s prize in only his second full season in Kenya.
