Posta Rangers gave their race for survival a big shot in the arm after playing to a 1 – 1 draw with champions Gor Mahia in the Saturday 25 May Round 33 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash staged at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
In a closely contested match, Gor Mahia took the lead in the 37th minute when Samuel Onyango floated in a free kick that Bernard Ondiek smashed onto the bar with an initial header before scoring with a second on the rebound.
The lead lasted just seven minutes, as Peter Ng’ang’a rose well to power home a header from Simon Mbugua’s cross in the 44th minute, the goal that would see Rangers claim a share of the spoils.
Earlier in the game, Nicholas Kipkirui had a penalty shout ignored as he went down to a challenge from Rangers keeper Gradus Ochieng while on the other end, Felix Ochieng missed a great opening that should have given Rangers the lead.
In the second half, Cersidy Okeyo had a great delivery in the 55th minute, which should have restored the Gor Mahia lead but after beating Gradus, the ball bounced off the bar.
Felix Oluoch also got a chance to hand Rangers the lead late on but he had a poor touch that saw the ball flying over the bar even as Rangers complained of a handball from Charles Momanyi in the build up.
The point gained sees Gor Mahia hit 71 points ahead of their final match of the season while Rangers, now on 32 points, need at least a point in the final match to ensure they won’t be among the bottom two.
