Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga netted the opener for his Japanese J. League 2 side Kashiwa Reysol on Sunday 26 May as they battled to a 1-1 draw with Omiya Ardija in a round 15 league tie played at Kashiwa’s Hitachi Stadium.
Olunga opened the scoring in the 28th minute, but the hosts were unable to hold on to the lead that could have secured only their second win in eight league games as Omiya rallied for a share of the spoils with Spanish forward Juan Juanma Manuel grabbing the equalizer after 66 minutes.
The draw left Kashiwa, who have struggled to string up wins, in 6th place in Japans second tier league with 24 points, six adrift of top spot and only goal difference keeping them in the promotion playoff bracket.
Olunga played 83 minutes before he as withdrawn for Brazilian attacking midfielder Gabriel.
The former Girona forward, though having struggled with injuries this season, is experiencing a productive first full campaign in Japan and has now netted seven times across all competitions for Kashiwa who he joined midway through the 2018 season.
