Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne has named a 27-man squad that will depart the country on Friday 31 May for France where they will be for a 19-day training camp ahead of this year’s AFCON finals to be played in Egypt.
The Frenchman had initially named a 30-man provisional squad that begun training last week and on Thursday 30 May during a luncheon held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, he trimmed his squad to 27.
The players dropped are Allan Wanga, Brian Bwire and Whyvonne Isuza. Wanga’s axing will particularly come as a surprise as he had been part of the qualifiers and is currently the KPL’s leading scorer with 18 goals.
Among those included are Christopher Mbamba who is yet to earn a cap for Kenya as well as Cliff Miheso, Joseph Okumu and John Avire who makes the grade up from the U23 side.
Four more players will be dropped before the final 23-man squad is named 10 days before the tournament begins as is the requirement.
Stars making a return back to the continental stage after a 15 year hiatus, have been placed in Group C alongside tournament favourites Senegal, Algeria and Tanzania.
During the France camp, the team will play two friendly matches against Madagascar on June 7th and DR Congo on June 15th and will depart for Cairo on the 19th.
