Oyemba, Shikalo left behind as Stars depart for France

Harambee Stars departed the country on Friday 31 May for Paris, France where they are set to be for a 19-day training camp to prepare for the AFCON finals in June and two of the 27 players included in the squad did not travel with the team.

The two are custodians Farouk Shikalo and John Oyemba who will link up with the team after Saturday’s FKF Shield Cup final between Bandari FC and Kariobangi Sharks to be played at the MISC Kasarani from 3PM.

Shikalo is Bandari’s first choice custodian and has been an ever present component between the sticks for the coastal outfit throughout the tournament while Oyemba will have to fight it out with Gad Matthew who has been Shark’s choice in the Shield.

The two keepers will travel immediately after the final to link up with the rest of the national team squad.

Twelve players departed on Friday with 15 more, mostly the foreign based players, set to link up with the team later.

Captain Victor Wanyama will do so after the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday where his Tottenham Hotspur side is set to face off against EPL rivals Liverpool.

Stars have been booked at the French Rugby Federation’s Marcoussis Cedex complex and will play two friendly matches as part of their preps against Madagascar and DR Congo.
