Bandari FC are the 2018-19 FKF Shield Cup champions; this after seeing off Kariobangi Sharks 3-1 in the two teams’ rescheduled second-half period of the final played at the MISC Kasarani on Sunday 2 June from 11AM.
Heavy rains led to the abandonment of the game on Saturday at half time with Bandari leading 2-1. It was ruled that the game would continue from the halfway point on Sunday where Bandari again proved too powerful, adding another goal to claim a 3-1 victory.
Substitute Benjamin Mosha scored the lone goal on Sunday to add on to Yema Mwana’s brace scored on Saturday with Patilah Omotto’s long range shot that halved the deficit in the opening stanza resulting to a mere consolation.
Bandari, who claimed the 2015 Shield Cup title, walk away with a Kshs 2m cash prize as well as earn the opportunity to represent the country at next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.
Dethroned champions Sharks on their part earn a Kshs 1m purse for finishing as runners-up.
The victory ends in a positive way, a season of near misses for Bandari who avenge their 1-0 loss to Sharks in this year’s SportPesa Cup final held in Tanzania earlier in the year as well as wipes away the heartache of finishing second, for the second successive season, to Gor Mahia in the KPL.
All attention now turns to the continental stage where the coastal outfit will look to go one step better than in 2015 where they excited the tournament in the first round of the preliminaries.
