Ulinzi Stars forward Enosh Ochieng will take home the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Golden Boot after scoring thrice in the team’s final match of the season, which ended in a 4-0 win over Mount Kenya United on Sunday 2 June at Afraha Stadium.
Heading to the game on 17 goals, just one behind leading scorer Allan Wanga, Enosh needed just 12 minutes to get level with Wanga and added two more in the second half after Wamalwa Oscar had doubled the hosts’ lead.
All eyes on Enosh
The match which had been rescheduled after failing to take off on Wednesday 29 May, had all eyes on Enosh after his challengers for the Golden Boot failed to score on Wednesday.
The weight of the expectations didn’t weigh on him as in just the 12th minute, he had already hit his 18th of the season in a match that Ulinzi Stars largely dominated.
Enosh stole in to take advantage of a poorly cleared ball in the Mount Kenya defence and with keeper Philip Odhiambo exposed, he had a gaping net to slot in.
Second half push
He still needed at least one more to pull clear and it formed his agenda in the second half, going by his runs in the box. However, it was Oscar Wamalwa who got the second of the game with a fine header from Nandwa’s cross off a short corner in the 50th minute.
In the 51st, Enosh got his 19th of the season with an easy tap in and rose well to head home his third of the day, 20th of the season and Ulinzi Stars’ fourth goal off Samuel Mwangi’s cross in the 57th minute.
The win sees Ulinzi Stars finish the season in eighth place, on 45 points, while Mount Kenya United, already relegated going to the match, finish bottom with 18 points.
