Olunga happy with DRC draw, hopes for better at AFCON

With five days remaining before the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals get underway, Kenya’s Harambee Stars forward Michael Olunga is confident the team is well on track.

Olunga netted the opening goal in Kenya’s final pre – AFCON friendly match, as the team drew 1 – 1 with DR Congo in Madrid, Spain on Saturday 15 June, a result he termed positive.

His 25th minute goal was canceled out by Arthur Musuaku’s 87th minute strike from a free kick, and in his post match reactions, Olunga noted that they will seek means to improve on the game heading to the finals in Egypt.

“It was a good game and I think tactically we played very well. DR Congo is a good team but at the end of the day it is all about the result and for us a draw is a positive result.

“It was our last friendly matches ahead of AFCON and we will build from there and we will give it a good shot come next week,” he noted.

Kenya, pooled in Group C, will play Algeria in their opening game at the competition on Sunday 23 June. Later, in the group, they will face Tanzania and Senegal.
