Rangers’ topflight experience showed in the first-leg, says Mafuta

Posta Rangers are only 90 minutes away from maintaining their topflight status as they lead Nairobi Stima 2-1 going into the second-leg of the two teams’ playoff tie to be played on Wednesday 19 June at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Rangers came away with the win in the first-leg tie played in Naivasha over the weekend and Stima head coach Evans Mafuta has been categorical that his charges lost due to their lack of experience.

“We lost to a more experienced side,” he said. “Their topflight experience showed throughout the game.

“We created plenty of chances but we were naïve in some instances and we were made to pay. But as professionals we know what is required of us in the return game and we will be ready.”

Joakins Atudo and Francis Nambute scored to render Dennis Oalo’s equalizer a consolation in the first game and Rangers are now one game away from continuing the KPL’s dominance over their NSL opponents in the playoffs.

No second tier team has sealed promotion to the KPL via the playoffs which were introduced in 2017.
