Schools: St Peter’s Mumias recovers to blow Group A open as Bishop Njenga start solidly

St Peters’ Boys Mumias had a torrid opening day on Wednesday 19 June in the Western Province term two ball games after recording a loss and a hard-fought win in a pool that will seemingly go all the way to the wire in the ongoing Western Province term two ball games.

The Saints, initially deemed favorites in the games being held at Bungoma High School, went down 1-0 at the hands of Vihiga County representatives Ebwali Secondary School and had to win their second of the day – a tough one against Maliki.

Tough pool

Maliki had dispatched Mabunge 2 – 0 earlier in the day, and a second win of the day would seal them a place in the semi-finals. They, however, fell short with The Saints winning 2-1 at Sudi Stadium, the chosen venue due to crowd concerns.

Mabunge did not end day one without victory as they too grabbed all three from Ebwali – a 1-0 win that further underlined just how tough Pool A was.

Pool B

In Pool B, Bugina fell 1-0 to Emanani and 3-1 to Bunyala. Kibabii Boys shared the spoils in a barren stalemate with Emanani.

In the girls’ U19 category, Vihiga county representatives Mudavadi Girls High School held Brenda Girls to a 1-1 draw while favorites Butere Girls whipped Aboloi 8-0. Mudavadi, in search of a win in the group- edged Butere Girls 1-0.

In Pool B, Arch Bishop Njenga were 3-0 winners over Chakol, and a resounding 9-0 winner over Emanyinya.

Chakol, however, recovered to dispatch Naitiri 2-0. Emanyinya had a rough outing on day one, also losing their second match of the day against Naitiri. They are out of the regional showpiece.
