The National Finals of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Youth Tournament kicked off on Thursday 20th June with quarterfinal games played at Kinoru Stadium and ASK Showgrounds in Meru County.
Acakoro Ladies 3-2 Ndhiwa Queens
Acakoro Ladies from Nairobi narrowly edged Ndhiwa Queens from Nyanza 3-2 in the first Ladies quarterfinal match.
Acakoro got their goals through Sylvia Makhungu who scored a brace and a goal from Catherine Awuor while Ndhiwa’s Susan Odindi also grabbed a brace.
Barcelona Ladies 4-0 St Mary’s Ndovea
Barcelona Ladies from Central thrashed St Marys’ Ndovea from Eastern 4-0 to advance to the semis with Jane Njeri scoring all the four goals. Bishop Njenga Girls from Western did not turn up for the games due to prior commitments elsewhere giving Kitale Queens from Rift Valley a walk over to the semis. Changamwe Ladies from Coast also got a bye to the semis, as there was no girls’ team from North Eastern.
Acakoro Ladies will, therefore, face Changamwe Ladies as Barcelona Ladies face Kitale Queens in the Semis tomorrow.
“We’ve had a good victory today. The matches were tough but the girls were tactical and focused. Our opponents had more physique and well-built but we played a more tactical game. We never underestimated our opponent and that has always been our secret to success. We look forward to another victory tomorrow in the semis,” said Pauline Awuor, Coach Acakoro Ladies.
Al Ahly 3-1 Berlin FC
In the first boys’ quarterfinals, Al Ahly from Rift beat Berlin FC from North Eastern 3-1. Oscar Kengwa scored a brace for Al Ahly with Suheib Jamal scoring the other while Berlin’s consolation was scored by Abdirashid Ali Abdi from the spot.
Lugari Blue Saints 3-0 Super Solico
Lugari Blue Saints from Western also booked a space in the semis after edging Super Solico from Eastern 3-0 courtesy of goals by Dennis Atsenga who scored two and Anami Watson who scored one.
Manyatta United 4-1 Euronuts
Nyanza Champions Manyatta United easily beat Euronuts from Central 4-1 to book their slot in the semis as well. Benson Ochieng and Mark Ochieng each scored a brace for Manyatta while Lual Mengistu pulled a consolation for Euronuts.
South B United 1-0 Shimanzi Youth
Victor Mwendwa scored with two minutes to stoppage time to ensure South B Unted edge Shimanzi Youth by a solitary goal in a closely contested quarterfinal match played at the Kinoru Stadium.
South B United will face Al-Ahly as Lugari Blue Saints prepare to face Manyatta United in the semis set for Saturday.
The winners of the quarterfinals pocketed KES 250,000 cash reward each and will now proceed to the semifinals set for Friday and Saturday. The girls will play their semifinals on Friday while the boys will play on Saturday.
