The 2016 East African champions Barding High School on Saturday 22 June brushed aside a stubborn Kisumu Day High School 2 – 0 to clinch the Nyanza Regional U19 Football title in a match played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
Barding, coached by former AFC Leopards defender Wellington Murwayi, had earlier dismissed favorites Awasi Boys in the semi-final and were scheduled to face Gesero but the latter were disqualified after an appeal by Kisumu Day. Day had lost to Gesero in the semi-final on penalties.
In the final, Kisumu Day went a man down in the first half but held on, thwarting the Barding attacks until the completion of 90 minutes.
Extra time then followed, but reeling from exhaustion, the home side couldn’t contain the Siaya County champions who seemed to have stepped up a little bit.
Barding got two in extra time through captain Sunday Ochieng to make a return to the national games set to be held in Kisumu.
In the girls’ U19, Nyakach Girls took down Gesero by four unanswered goals to also make an entry to the national games.
