Chemelil Sugar FC’s break is over, and after a grueling 2018/19 season, head coach Francis Baraza has assembled his charges to start preparations for the coming season, hoping to make it better.
The team resumed for preseason preparations on Tuesday 25 June but with no new faces, though the coach says he has a number of positions earmarked for beefing up, with the search for young but experienced players top of his agenda.
In 2018/19, the team finished 14th with 34 points and Baraza hopes the coming one bears better prospects. He is set to hold talks with the club management to align the two sides ambitions and hit the ground running.
“We don’t have any new signings yet, but definitely there are a few we are eyeing. We have to sit down with the management and determine this among many other issues ahead of the start of the new season but I am optimistic we will have a better one,” he told Soka.
Goalkeeping and the attack are among the key areas Baraza will be hoping to beef up, but he admitted that a general toning of the team is necessary.
“Based on last season’s experiences, I have to strengthen the striking and goalkeeping departments, but generally I am looking for young but experienced players to bring to the team,” he added.
The 2019/20 campaign starts on Friday 30 August but Chemelil Sugar will get to action two days later, when they make the short trip to Kericho to take on Zoo FC at the Kericho Green Stadium.
