Gor Mahia have on Tuesday 25 June confirmed that immediate Sony Sugar head coach Patrick Odhiambo has taken up the position of assistant coach at the club, putting pen to paper on a two year deal.
Odhiambo steps in to replace Zedekiah Zico Otieno who left the club last month to take up a role as head coach of KCB.
The former Agro Chemical and Chemelil Sugar tactician will work under head coach Hassan Oktay who will be starting his second season at the helm of the record KPL champions.
Gor chairman Ambrose Rachier talked up Odhiambo’s qualities as he welcomed him to the club and further confirmed that the position had seen a great deal of interest from other coaches.
“We are very happy that he agreed to join us at Gor Mahia and hope to reach greater heights together,” Rachier is quoted as saying on the club’s official portal.
“He is a qualified and capable coach and we were impressed by the work he has done elsewhere so among the many coaches who were interested in the job we settled on him.”
Odhiambo led Sony to an impressive 5th placed finish in last season’s league campaign. Winning 16 of the club’s total 34 fixtures which was the third joint highest tally behind Gor Mahia’s 21 and Bandari’s 18.
