Teams in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) have started reporting back to camp for preseason preparation ahead of the 2019/2020 campaign and Nzoia Sugar have set Monday 8 July as the resumption date.
Ahead of the team’s resumption, the club will be conducting week long trials, starting Monday 1 July, with the hope of picking out about five players, spread across different positions.
Integrated in team
Speaking to Soka about the same, club chairman Ngisa Mokua stated that the players identified will not be outright new signings, but will be integrated in the team for a few training sessions to determine if they can fit in.
“We are calling on capable players to come and try out for a chance to play for us and in the premier league next season. The trials will be open and we will be looking to pick five players to integrate in the team and see how they gel with the rest,” he said.
The number of players picked from the trials may be higher than five though, as the chairman stated that should other current players opt to leave, their replacements could be selected from the those in the trials.
“The number of players we pick from the trials is also dependent on who is leaving. If we have departures, we will definitely have to replace,” he added.
As the club makes plans for preseason, it may have to think of a new man in charge, with head coach Godfrey Solo Oduor linked with a move to KCB, where he is listed to take over as assistant coach.
