Harambee Stars to jet back on Thursday morning after AFCON elimination

Harambee Stars will jet back to the country in the wee morning hours of Thursday 4 July from Egypt where they were taking part in the 32nd edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The team will depart Egypt at 10:45PM CAT and will be expected to land at 3:30AM CAT.

Stars were eliminated at the group stages after losing two and drawing one of the three matches they played to mark a disappointing return back to Africa’s premier competition after a 15 year hiatus.

Sebastien Migne’s men were placed in a tough group together with Senegal, Algeria and Tanzania. They defeated Taifa Stars 3-2 but lost to Algeria (2-0) and Senegal (3-0).

Michael Olunga finished as the team’s best scorer with two goals scored in the Tanzania win.

Focus now shifts to the CHAN qualifiers where Stars are scheduled to play Tanzania over two-legs with the first match being played on July 26 away in Tanzania.

The return leg will be played a week later in Nairobi on August 4.
