Olunga back in business with goal and assists in Japan

It is less than a week after getting dumped out of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Kenya and striker Michael Olunga has already settled back at his Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol, and with a big impact.

In his first match since returning to his base, Olunga netted and provided two assists to see his team pick a 4 – 2 win over Ventforet Kofu, and with the win Reysol moved further close to an automatic promotion slot.

Olunga goal

Reysol’s Brazilian forward Cristiano scored the opener in in the 36th minute and just when the opponents thought they’d kept Reysol in check, Olunga rose to fire home his second in the second minute of added time in the first half.

Reysol would see their lead put under threat just one resumption as Kazuhiro Sato halved Ventforet’s deficit. That, however, lasted just 14 minutes as Ataru Ekasa restored Reysol’s two – goal cushion.

Three straight wins

Sato scored his second of the day in the 73rd minute to once again cut Reysol’s lead but four minutes later, Ekasa was at it again, wrapping up his brace and three points.

With the win, Reysol, on three straight wins, settled well in third place on 37 points, level with second placed Kyoto Sanga and three behind league leaders Montedio Yamagata.

Meanwhile, Ventforet remains sixth on 33 points.
