Gor Mahia are through to the quarter-finals of the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup being held in Rwanda after securing a 2-0 win over Djiboutian side AS Ports in the two team’s second game of Group D played Wednesday 10 July at the Umugunda Stadium.
New signing Dennis Oalo opened his account for the club with a stoppage time goal to add on to Boniface Omondi’s opener and second goal of the tournament, scored after an hour.
The win follows K’Ogalo’s opening day 2-0 win over AS Maniema of the DRC and confirms their passage to the quarter-finals with a game to spare.
Hassan Oktay’s men join home favourites APR and Rayon Sports in the last eight with both teams also having won their opening two games.
AS Port, who defeated KMKM of Zanzibar in their first match, will now need to avoid defeat in their final match against Maniema if they are to qualify from the group.
Maniema and KMKM are set to lock horns later on Wednesday. A loss for the Zanzibari side will see them eliminated from the tourney.
