Wazito FC Technical Director Stanley Okumbi has called on the team’s players to approach the coming season with the knowledge that they will have to work for their places in the team.
The team, freshly promoted from the second tier, is assembling a star-studded side for a second assault in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and Okumbi, in a meeting with the players on Tuesday 9 July, said there will be no favors in fielding.
No predetermined positions
“You will all have to work for your number. As the technical bench, we have no predetermined positions for certain players. If will be your hard work and sweat that will secure you consistent playing time”, he stated.
The team, led by Fred Ambani, has been busy in the offseason transfer window, shipping in a number of top players, and Okumbi will want to see a return on the investment, with Wazito thought to be among the best payers in the country at the moment.
So far, the team has signed highly rated Kevin Omondi, Joshua Nyatini and Derrick Otanga from Sony Sugar, Gad Mathew from Kariobangi Sharks, Pistone Mutamba from Sofapaka and goalkeeper Bixente Otieno, a Kenya U17 international.
