Kagame Cup: Bandari eliminated after third successive stalemate

Bandari FC have been eliminated from the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup currently ongoing in Rwanda after drawing all three of their group stage games with the latest being a 0-0 draw with defending champions Azam FC played at the Huye Stadium on Friday 12 July.

The draw sees Bandari finish with three points behind Azam and KCCA who are now tied at the top of Group B with four points but the later can extend their lead as they are set to take on bottom side in the group Mukura Sports, later-on on Friday at the same ground to conclude the group’s action.

Azam, who won last year’s tourney on home soil in Tanzania, are still not yet through to the knockout round and will wait to see the outcome of the match between KCCA and Mukura.

Though bottom of the group, Mukura can still qualify to the next round with atleast a 2-0 win over KCCA. They have one point from the two games that they have played and a two goal cushion win will see them edge out Azam.

Four teams have so far made it through to the quarter-finals with Kenya’s other representative, Gor Mahia, one of them.

Gor made it through with a game to spare after they won their opening two group games by similar 2-0 scorelines.

The other teams to make it to the last eight are Rwandese duo of APR and Rayon Sport as well as guest team Green Eagles from Zambia.

Four matches remain, two from Group A and two from Group D to conclude the group stages and they will be played this weekend of 13-14 July.
