Gor Mahia eyes CECAFA glory to kickstart KPL title defence

After the opening round of matches at the CECAFA Kagame Cup, which is currently underway in Rwanda, Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions, Gor Mahia have emerged as favorites to bag the title and head coach Hassan Oktay hopes it ends so, to fire them to the KPL 2019/20 season on a high.

Gor saw off Zanzibari side KMKM in their final group game on Sunday 14 July to finish top of Group C of the competition and they did it despite having already qualified for the quarters.

Preseason prep

Used also as a sort of preseason prep for the 2019/20 campaign, Oktay hopes his charges can go all the way and pick the top gong at the tournament.

“We have done well so far and I believe we can do better,” he said after the win over KMKM.

“While we are taking part here, we are also thinking of the new season in Kenya in August and we want to do well there too. We want to win this title so it can give us the impetus in the KPL,” he added.

Gor Mahia will take on guest team Green Eagles on Wednesday 17 July in the last of the quarter final matches.
