Tanzania name 10 players from AFCON sojourn for CHAN qualifier against Kenya

The Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) has released a 25-man squad for the upcoming two-legged CHAN qualifier against Kenya with interim head coach Ndayiragije Etienne naming to the squad 10 players from the team that represented the country at this year’s AFCON finals in Egypt.

Kenya and Tanzania are set to rekindle their rivalry with the first-leg tie between the two being played in Dar Es Salaam on July 28 with the return-leg set for one week later in Nairobi on August 4.

The two matches will be the second and third between the two nations in the space of a month following last month’s AFCON group stage meeting.

Mudatiri Yahya (L) of Azam FC is one of 10 players who were at the AFCON finals in Egypt and who have been included in Tanzania’s CHAN squad

Both teams were pooled together in the same AFCON group alongside tournament finalists Senegal and Algeria and were both eliminated at the group stages with Tanzania doing so after losing all three of their matches including a 3-2 reverse to Kenya.

The poor showing at the country’s second appearance at the continental stage led to the sacking of head coach Emmanuel Amuneke with Azam FC head coach Ndayiragije taking over the duties on an interim basis.

Six of the 10 players who were at the AFCON started against Kenya. There is also a place for U17 forward Kelvin John in the squad.
