Ugandan champions KCCA have made it through to the final of the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup tournament being held in Rwanda thanks to a grueling 4-3 extra time victory over Green Eagles in the two teams’ semi-final match-up played at the Kigali Stadium on Friday 19 July.
KCCA’s Allan Okello and Eagles’ Amity Shamende exchanged braces within normal regulation time to send the match to extra time where the Ugandan side proved to be too strong thanks to goals from Mike Mutyaba and Anaku Sadat with Chris Chola pulling one back for the Zambian side late in the game.
The win sends KCCA to their first CECAFA final in more than 40 years. KCCA, who have never won the tournament, graced the 1978 final where they lost to Tanzania’s Simba SC.
The second semi-final is currently ongoing at the same venue between defending champions Azam FC and AS Maniema of Congo.
